My 4 Year Old Should Not Be Alive!

Ethan slept his first 4 months in a Simplicity Bassinet, next to my bed.
Ethan learned to nurse in public while chilling in his Infantino Slingrider.
Ethan chewed on a billion Sassy Teething Rings and Infantino Soothers to soothe his poor gums while teething.
Ethan drank from Avent Bottles, that were not BPA free.
Ethan, while learning to crawl, played on his Kick and Crawl gym mat.
Ethan slept in his room from 5 months on, in a StorkCraft crib, monitored by a Summer Infant Monitor.
Ethan was our of his infant carseat at 3 months and placed in an Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 Carseat.
Ethan’s most favorite toy growing up, that we still own was his Little People Farm.
And don’t even get me started on the HUGE Tylenol Recall.
So as you can see.. My son CLEARLY should be dead and not the thriving 4 year old he is.
Are you sick and tired of all the recalls that are based solely on parent missuses?
How many things have your used for your child that have been recalled?

  1. I agree 110%!!!!!! It is getting extremely annoying. Companies shouldn’t have to worry about stupid parents when making products. Those parents should be the problem of CPS as they are obviously a danger to their child!(sorry I was JUST thinking about this stuff before I read this)

I agree about a recall when it’s obvious parental negligence, but aren’t you glad that just about every baby bottle on the market is now BPA free? If anything, I’m at least grateful for the awareness that these recalls bring.

  3. Let’s face it nothing is 100% safe. As parents we have to use more common sense. I really do think these recalls are getting out of hand. I can’t keep returning products to the store and being forced to buy a more expensive one just because it failed for a handful of people & about 20% didn’t use the product properly which is why it didn’t work for them.

Yes, recalls are good in cases like lead paint used on toys or contaminated medicines. I just hope the government gets these things under control because the recall walls at Walmart, Target & Babies ‘R Us are covered w/ recall notices.

  4. I agree that recalls should not be issued due to misuse of the product. This reminds me of the other day. I was looking on the Walmart website *which I hardly ever do because I never shop there* and I was looking at folding children’s outdoor tables. I always look at comments and reviews on Amazon and noticed that Walmart has the same set up. If you want a good laugh, I would suggest checking it out. These people are just stupid. One actually said that they didn’t think it was very good because it wobbled when their kids stood on it and jumped off….of a folding table! And another was complaining about how their box had been opened and the hardware wasn’t in it (which is a problem with the store, not the product). It made me feel really bad for those poor kids that have to grow up with a grown up like that though….

It is the careless parents that cause the drama. If only people would take responsibility for their children’s actions we wouldn’t have all these unnecessary recalls.
Doing your best is all anyone can ask for.

  6. It IS a miracle he’s alive LOL :) It’s a miracle any person born before the early 80′s is alive. My Mom told me about bringing my sister from the hospital carrying me in her lap while my Dad drove, and if she had to take her somewhere herself, she had this plastic tub sort of like a baby bathtub that she would lay her in. That would have been in 1964, and Wikipedia says car seats were invented in 1962!

The thing with the Fisher Price Farm just bugs me. Do parents realize how many objects in their homes that their kids come in contact with are held together by tiny screws? Better get rid of that baby monitor, crib aquarium, high chair, in fact, even that car seat. Any of them could come apart and expose your child to TINY SCREWS. Be very afraid of EVERYTHING! LOL

  7. OMGosh, Skye, I FEEL THE SAME WAY!!! I could have written this post myself. Not all of the same products but basically the same story. My 5 year old daughter’s stroller/travel system, crib, bottles, etc. have all been recalled. I feel like a LOT of the recalls were due to parent stupidity. It’s so frustrating when you have more than one child and you buy things with the intention of reusing them for the next child and then can’t!

My daughter’s crib was awesome and well made but when we moved we lost the hardware for it. I went to try to contact the manufacturer to get replacement parts so my son could use it when he was born. Instead I found a recall on the crib and an offer for a voucher for the price paid (5 years ago, mind you, inflation not taken into consideration at all). So we ended up getting a new crib for my son with the voucher and paying some extra on top of it. It’s SO not as well made as my daughter’s crib was and it’s going in the trash when he’s done in it. Super, super disappointing. :(

  8. Oh and don’t get me started on how it’s now illegal to sell drop side cribs. *sigh*

  9. Wow, I had never heard that Alicia. That is insane! EVERYONE knows that eating a good breakfast helps kids learn better. That’s just common sense. Grrrr…. people!

Oh my gosh… Have all those things been recalled? Holy crap!

My children are now 29, 26, 23, and 18. They are all alive and thriving. My oldest is disabled but not due to any product malfunctions etc. They all used non BPA free everything, used walkers not activity seats and so forth.
