2012 Toyoya Prius V

If you are looking for a vehicle that is going to get you tons of miles per gallon than I am sure you have heard of the Prius. With gas prices on the up and up there is no better time to look into owning a hybrid. If you are looking for a small hybrid that is still able to tote the family around town than the Prius may just be the vehicle for you!

The PriusV was made for active families with spaciousness and flexibility as well as a comfortable interior! Inside you have super comfy seating for five with ample head room, and an impressive 38-inch couple distance, providing generous rear legroom that a teen or an adult sitting in the back will appreciate. The sliding second row seats allow for easier ingress and egress and rear-storage flexibility, with a 45-degree recline for greater comfort. The 60/40 split, folding rear seats present four different seat arrangements that provide excellent usability for passengers and luggage, while a fold-flat front-passenger seat allows for extremely long cargo.

Storage Space

Storage space in the Toyota Prius is ample! There are five cup holders, three front and two rear cup holders. One for each passenger assuming you are cruising around with five people. I really love the dual glove compartment. It gives you one for important paper work and one to hide all your mom junk in so that all the paperwork is safe.

The trunk is actually boasts the most spacious dedicated hybrid vehicle trunk on the market today. With the rear seatbacks down, Prius V offers 67.3 cubic feet of cargo space. By volume, that’s equal to 98 paper grocery bags. With the seatbacks up, there’s 34.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. I was able to fit a huge double stroller in the trunk with plenty of room left over for groceries, a cooler, luggage or anything else I would need for a day out! The hatchback made it super easy to get things in and out and protected me from the rain while loading and unloading stuff!

Entune

The Entune system is a collection of popular mobile applications and data services delivered via most smartphones. Using Bluetooth wireless technology or a USB cable, the features of Entune are operated with the vehicle’s controls or, for some services, by voice recognition. Entune apps include Bing, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable and Pandora and other data services.

With Entune planning family movie night was so easy. With the MovieTickets.com app we were able to search for movies, locations and times. Then purchase the tickets and find the theater all from the Prius! This was a huge time saver for a busy mom!

Three Across

I was able to fit three car seats across, with a bit of maneuvering.. Pictured below is the Combi CoccoroDinon Radian and the Sunshine Kids Radian. I did have to use the seat belt on all three to get them tight enough and in a proper position.

Panoramic View Moonroof

This is a brand new feature for the Prius. The Panoramic View Moonroof with power retractable sun shades provides an open atmosphere in the cabin with a 40-percent reduction in weight as compared to conventional glass roofs of the same size, and excellent heat insulation performance. This improved thermal resistance means the engine needs to run less to preserve comfortable ambient temperatures, which in turn enhances fuel efficiency. The moonroof has an electrically operated shade system with a jam protection function.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

I have save the best for last. This is by far my very favorite feature of the Prius. It makes highway and long distance driving so easy! Simply set the speed you wish to travel and the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will do the rest. It detects when a car in front of you is going slower than you and automatically decreases you speed! When that car is no longer in front of you, or when you switch lanes, you will slowly increase in speed until you are back at the speed you originally set it at! Here is a video explaining it a bit better-

The vehicle I tested has a price of $36,480.00, which included the Advanced Technology Package, 17″ Alloy Wheels, LED Headlamps, Fog Lamps, SofTex-trimmed Seating, 3-Door Smart Key and Entune!

You can find a dealer near you to test drive or purchase a Toyota Prius V by clicking here.

Special thanks to Toyota for letting me test drive the Prius V for a week.

Comments

  1. Nice job on the review of the Prius V Skye. Spot on. It’s even better in person.

  2. Diane Sallans says

Wow – I didn’t know the Prius had all those great features & so roomy too!

  3. dannyscotland says

I want one of these SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!! I have wanted one since my second child came along and the fit of her car seat in the back of my Corolla is so tight (rear facing) that it is very uncomfortable for anyone in the passenger seat to ride. However, I do still love (love love love) my Corolla, I just think a slightly bigger car would be useful, and I really want one that is more environmentally friendly. Hm. Now I just have to figure out how to dig up $37K to get all the cool things this one came with. Ugh, drooool!

  4. Mary Happymommy says

That’s amazing that you can fit 3 carseats! I love that color blue.

  5. This car is quite expensive $36,480.00, but I see it worth every penny.

  6. Nikole H. says

We were just visiting friends over the weekend and there were 2 different families with this car there! One family had 2 kids, the other 1, and they both loved it as a family car 🙂 It was really neat hearing them talk about the battery and the different technology used in these cars!

  7. Christine M says

I wanted one of these when they first came out. Interesting huge dashboard display…not sure that is such a good use of energy…

  8. Denise Nutile says

Have loved the Prius for years and have wanted one. Just sold my minivan and bought a VW Jetta in order to save on gas, plus I park in a parking garage at work and the van just made it tough to find parking. Maybe in a couple of years I can trade in the Jetta for a Prius. Love how roomy it is and all the features make it even more appealing. Thanks for reviewing.

  9. Bekah Kuczenski says

I love that it has dynamic radar cruise control, I wish my car had that feature!

  10. wooow.. It’s so cool…I love the Entune system

  11. A vehicle that is going to get you tons of miles per gallon, sounds great to me.

  12. Cheryl Rahkonen says

I wish I had looked at the Prius when I was car shopping. I opted for a Ford Flex but I think I really would have loved this Prius. Wow, to be able to sit 3 car seats across would be wonderful as I have three grandchildren in car seats that are with me all the time. It sure would save time from moving seats and crawling in to the back to try to get the child in and out. The Entune system looks great. I believe I would love this car and will definitely be looking at it the next time I go to purchase one.

  13. The Prius looks like a great car, but I am not sure about how roomy it is. I think it would be a tight squeeze for my family in the car.

  14. I’m just so totally impressed that you fit the carseats in this thing ha ha. We have been having a heck of a time figuring out seat space.

  15. Fantastic features – I am so impressed. I also love the trunk space:)

  16. jamie davis says

I like that its a hatchback! The sliding rear seat is awesome too!

  17. zoesmumlizs says

great review with awesome pictures:-) you really showed what this car has in store for its buyers, i love toyota and can only point out how reliable and fuel efficient these cars are, plus great driving experience:-)

  18. Brittany W says

I’ve had my eye on this car for years. I love that it is roomy and has great gas mileage, and it’s really cute! When we need another vehicle, I have a feeling this will be what we get.

  19. Somaly Man says

My husband and I have always wanted a Pruis. I don’t know too much about the vehicle itself so it was very informative getting to read your review. I have a family of 4, so this car fits us perfectly. I do have a 9 week old infant and a 3 year old toddler, so that is already two car seats that we need to fit in the back. Occasionally, we will have my niece along with us, so it’s great seeing that this car can fit a third car seat. The other thing about having kids is needing the room to fit a stroller; and the Prius has just enough room for that. I currently own a Toyota Yaris, so all this space would be a big difference for me. I currently can only fit 2 car seats in the back and no other room leftover. The only way I can fit a stroller in the trunk is if I move the backs seats forward, which then will cause me to move the front seats forward; now we won’t have much leg room. This is a great car for my family because we love traveling and the gas to mileage ratio is AMAZING! I don’t have very much money, so this car would be the perfect one for my little family!

  20. Paul T/Pauline T says

My husband and I love on old prius and looking forward to buying a new one. It is so nice looking. Thanks for the review

  21. The Toyota Prius V looks very nice. Thanks for the interesting and informative review!

  22. Meg Tucker says

That entune system sounds pretty cool! I also am very attracted to the Dynamic Radar Cruise feature but I have to say that what “sold” me is the Panoramic Moon Roof!!

  23. Jill A. Collins says

I love that we’ve been producing more and more eco friendly cars these days. Wish it would have happened years ago! Thanks for the overview on all the features of the Prius. I’ve not gotten to see one in person yet and this gives me a great idea at what to look for next time I buy a new car.

  24. Lisa Richards says

with my daughter living three hours away and my son two, I need a really good car that will get me back & forth cheaply

  25. This is my favorite.I need a dependable car with space.

  26. My sister has an earlier model. Great car.

  27. Debbie Petch says

I always wanted to buy a Prius. Save on gas and cool gadgets!

  31. katklaw777 says

We have been considering buying this car…thanks for the great review!

  32. Michelle Feliciano says

I love that you could fit 3 car seats in the back.

  33. Toyota really has an edge above the rest when it comes to Hybrids. They have the technology down to a science and can load them full of amazing features.

  34. Tiffany Kinney says

I’d love to get one of these cars for my next car!

  35. Jennifer Mae Hiles says

So between the Prius and the Highlander, which one did you prefer?

    • Jennifer-
They are both so so different. I think it all depends on your family size. Both boast great gas mileage and amazing features and comfort!

The Prius would be a superb car for people with three or fewer children, as a second car for a family with three or more children or someone for who has a large commute to work!

The Highlander replaces the need for a minivan for families. Great for those with two or more kids with lots of cargo space- or for those with three or more kids looking to stay away from a van!

  36. Nice car, I love how 3 car seats fit in the backseat too 😛 I could definitely go for one of these 🙂

  37. Stephanie O says

WOW! Love it. I lime that it can fit three car seats and that a jogging stroller fits in trunk area plus the cargo cover is nice. Roofs are cool. Maybe our next car in a few years when we pay off our van.

  38. One day I’ll be able to afford it!

  39. TERRY EALEY says

THIS IS THE CAR THAT I WANT!! WE HAVE A BIG, DOUBLE CAB, 8 CYLINDER, CHEVY SILVARODO! DON’T GET ME WRONG, I LOVE OUR TRUCK!! BUT LET’S FACE IT, IT’S NOT A ROAD TRIP VEHICLE!! IT REMINDS ME OF THE DAYS WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I WERE FIRST MARRIED (35 YEARS AGO) WE HAT A FIAT! YOU COULD GO ACROSS 3 STAKES ON A TANK OF GAS! THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLE DAYS!!!

  40. This car looks very nice and comfy!!

  41. WOW I did not know the prius had so much room. Looks like it has alot of great features that I would love to have on my next car.

  42. A loyal Toyota owner. Never had a Prius, but that will be our next car; an upgrade from the current Camry.

  43. Diane Sallans says

    I love that panoramic moonroof!

  44. Denise Kasbohm says

This would be so perfect for my family…….can’t afford it now though. I didn’t realize it would fit so much. I have 5 kids…3 that ride with us always along with all of their field hockey and beach stuff. We also have so many of our family out of state and don’t get to see them for years due to a van that won’t make a car trip. :/

  45. Lametria Brooks (Mimi) says

I’ve driving the Toyota Prius only as a loaner car. I loved it. It had a smooth drive and it wasnt as slow as I though a little hybrid vehicle would be. If it was a little bit bigger I would love to trade my Volvo in for it.

  46. I still love this car! Maybe someday I’ll be able to afford a car payment. 🙂

  47. that is fab u lous!!! i would die fior one of these those things are reliableee

  48. Rita Spratlen says

I am leaving another comment on this vehicle. It sure is the one I would pick. I love SUV’s!! Great ride with all the whistles. Thanks for the review.

  49. Carol ONeil says

This car is beautiful I love it.

  50. I love this car. I didn’t really like he Prius when he first came out but they’ve come a long way This looks great because it is relatively small but still has lots of rooms. I love all the high tech features.

  51. The fact there is even a possiblity of getting three car seats in such a fuel efficient vehicle is amazing to me! With our family of five I figured getting a fuel efficient car would only be something hubby would drive because there would be no way I could take all three kids with me in it! Thanks for the review!

  52. Jeannette Laframboise says

I have actually wanted one of these vehicles since they first came out. I am a community nurse and sometimes I drive up to 200 miles per day! Not only does it cost a fortune with the price of gas but it is also increased the wear and tear on my vehicle. I like that it offers lots of storage space as well because I need to carry a lot of supplies with me. When my loan is paid up for my present vehicle, I will likely purchase a Prius. I bet that I will save a fortune in gas! Thanks for the info! 😉

  53. This is my dream car. I hadn’t heard about the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control but I WANT IT!

  54. Love the new Moonroof! Any sunshine I can get, especially in winter, is more than welcome. 🙂

  55. Doreen Musson says

This is the vehicle that my daughter and her family are probably going to purchase. Money is tight and this car will help them save money on gas. Thanks for this review. I have forwarded it on to them!

  56. Sara Zielinski says

This would be a great choice for a new car for me, since it is small and I am used to driving small cars.

  57. I have test driven a Prius and I like how they are so quiet.

  58. Michelle S says

Someday (if it ever happens) I would LOVE to own a hybrid car and this one is super-chic!

  59. Judy Bradley says

I would love one of these if only to save on gas! I think they are cute too, and I am thrilled to see that the 3 car seats fit in there! Thanks for the info.

  60. Jennifer Nielsen says

I LOVE the new Prius! I mean, you can fit 3 car seats in the back, not to mention the gas milage and green-ness of it all!! The only vehicle that it up to par with this vehicle is the Prius plug-in.

  61. sharon winne says

I love this car! It amazes me you fit 3 car seats in the back! I have crv, and it looks like the prius has more room in the back than my crv!

  62. maria elena says

i want a prius soooo badly! great review

  63. Tiffany Christie says

I’d love to have one of these and wish I could afford it! It would be great to have that gas mileage.

  64. Christina M Kelbel says

Love this car, I have been wanting one for a long time now.

  65. kelly goss says

i love the prius! i have a smart car and it’s just the best thing for gas, but i’ve thought that my next car should be a prius cause they’re even better!!!!

  66. Toni Porter says

I’ve wanted a Prius for a long time, especially since they’re more eco-friendly than a lot of vehicles. I absolutely love the storage space on this model, too.

  67. I so want this car. My husband does 50 miles RT for work everyday, my grands live about 90 miles away, etc. etc.

I also would love to be able to drive it to Florida. Airfare has gotten outrageous and we don’t mind driving.

The Prius seems like it would be economical and comfortable.

  68. Jude Skocki Kelly says

wow, I didn’t know there was so much room in the Prius. I really thought it was a compact car.

  69. Jaime Frolos-Sylva says

I’ve always loved the Prius. Love the roominess and all the features.

  70. Richard Hicks says

I am sold on this. car. Love the mileage it gets and it such a high tech car. Great reviews on it too.

  71. Amber Nara says

WOW..I am hearing such raves about this car. I drive 300 miles a day. I am really tempting to go and test drive this car. I am so old fasioned that I am unsure if I will like all the new latest greatest features cars have now! SCARED…lol. I mean I still have a candy bar historical cell phone! 😉 BUT…..THE TONS OF MILES PER GALLON…got my attention here! Also the 5 cup holdes..what a great time it would be no longer listning to my kiddos fight over the back 1 cup holder we have now in our Ford Focus. Thank You for all the clarity and everyone else thanks too! I read all you reviews!

  72. This car looks so awesome! We’ve thought about purchasing one for a while now and now that I’ve read your review, I want one more than ever.

  74. Karen Glatt says

I want a Toyota Prius, but I just want it to be basic to keep the cost down. I like that this is a very dependable car that gets very good gas mileage. This car now has very nice colors to choose from, and it has decent room for a family!

  75. Sandy VanHoey says

You would never know by looking at this vehicle that 3 car seats would fit. Amazing! I get kind of envious seeing all these reviews. How fun to be able to have them and test them out and review. I would have a great time doing that.

  76. I am considering a Hybrid car as my next car. This one sounds good. Thank you for the review!

  77. Thank You for this review.
These are the exact same carseats I am trying to fit into a Prius V.
    #3 on the way!!

  78. A couple of my friends have this car and love it. I’d like one too.

  79. I have a regular 2012 Prius, and I love it! Its cargo area isn’t as large but my car gets better mileage due to its smaller size! It sure would’ve been nice if I’d had the money to get all the cool features that your model had, though, like the sunroof! What did you think of the SmartKey? I freakin’ love it. I hate digging in my purse for my keys because they’ve always fallen to the bottom, so I love that I just have to put my hand on the door handle and it detects my key and unlocks! Best mom feature ever!

  80. Samantha lockhart says

What brand of stroller is that? I have a 2010 Prius and am looking for a double stroller that fits
