Kerflip! The Fast-Thinking, Flip-Scoring, Free-for-All Word Game

Growing up in a family full of avid readers meant that both my mother and grandmother were into word games. Which in turn means I was forced to sit around the table during a family game night and be crushed by the superior vocabularies of both my mom and my grandmother as we played Scrabble. Not very fun.

Now that I am older, I really enjoy word games! However my husband is not a very good speller and I find that the my older kids really want to be included, but Scrabble is a bit to hard for them to play right now. With Kerflip! everyone has a shot at winning; master wordsmiths and young pupils alike!

Game play is super easy. When you spot a word, shout it out, and start your timer! Players are scored in the order that they shout out their words. The sooner you call a word, the earlier you get to score! Why is it important to score early? Because tiles are worth more (10 points) the first time they’re used; once used, they’re flipped and are worth only 5 points to players who haven’t scored yet. So, typically, the longer you take to call a word, the fewer higher-scoring (unused) tiles will be left when it’s your turn to score.

Creative Foundry has brought  the competition back to family game night! Kerflip! is for 2-4 players, ages 8 and up, and is available for $24.99. For information or to purchase this game, visit www.kerflip.com. To see an instructional video about how to play this game, see below!

Nate and I play this game often. Most times even Blake, who is 7 can play with us. He actually beats us quite often because we over think the words and he sees one of his recent spelling words in the letters! The game is an amazing concept, but what really fascinates me is how easy clean up is. Simply dump the unused tiles into the hole, then shake the box till all the tiles dump into the box!

Buy It: You can purchase Kerflip! for 24.99 from foundrygames.com. Use code “blog20” for 20% off your purchase (expires July 31.)
