Tips For Growing Curb Appeal This Fall

Did you know that curb appeal sells 49 percent of all homes? That means that all that work you put into your kitchen and bathroom won’t mean jack if your outside plants aren’t pruned and your lawn isn’t green! Below are a couple ways you can update your home’s exterior attraction this fall. Fall is the ideal season for corrective lawn and landscaping measures so read on for some tips!

Fence Fix.
You can turn a neglected wood fence into a functional form of beauty. Walk your fence perimeter to ensure all fence pieces are structurally sound. Then give your fence a good cleaning to eliminate mold, mildew, dirt and algae. Then stain in! Staining this time of year is the perfect time because the weather is so nice!

Corrective Pruning.
Conduct corrective pruning in fall to prevent dead or overgrown plants from being a thorn in your home’s curb appeal. Proper pruning now can enhance a plant’s appearance in spring. Thin, rather than top-shear, overgrown shrubs and flowering trees to preserve their overall shape. Help your lawn breathe through fall core aeration to strengthen roots. Core aeration removes small plugs of turf, thatch and soil from your lawn increasing the flow of air, water and nutrients to roots. Plugs break down and feed nutrients back to the lawn’s root system while allowing more room for roots to expand.

Fall Feed.
A good fall feed gives lawn, tree and shrub roots the energy to prepare for healthy spring growth. Fall treatments are beneficial as roots continue active growth leading up to dormant winter months. Look to a professional company such as TruGreen to get your lawn ready for winter dormancy.

The TruGreen Healthy Lawn Plan includes protection against lawn-feeding pests, the use of a time-release formula to gradually feed important nutrients to the lawn, and ongoing customized lawn care. TruGreen’s specialized lawn services are designed to specifically meet your lawn’s needs throughout the year based on climate, grass type, soil condition and usage.

I really need to work on my home’s curb appeal. I just don’t have a green thumb. Knowing more about pruning and seasonal needs of plants would help. Maybe I could use TruGreen. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that curb appeal is needed to sell your house. My yard has great curb appeal with green lawn, flowers planted, and updated siding. When we were looking for a house and this was many many years ago I would not go into a house to even look at the inside if the outside looked like crap. And if I was to sell my house now I would (and do) keep the yard up and the outside of the house.

  3. With two parents who used to sell real estate for a living, I understand how important curb appeal is. And thanks to TV shows that have showcased things like this, many more people have come to understand how important it is too.
