Keep Your Kids Safer With A V.W.S #SafetySam

Disclosure: This post brought to you by Step2!

Did you know that every year, thousands of children are hurt or die because a driver moving forward very slowly didn’t see them?

These Incidents for the most part take place in residential driveways or parking lots and are referred to as ‘frontovers’ (the opposite of a backover). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration January 2009 Report states that ‘other’ (not a backover) non‐occupant non-traffic crashes are responsible for 393 deaths and 20,000 Injuries per year.

Over 80% of “frontover” incidents involved a larger size vehicle (truck, van, SUV). Tragically, in over 70% of these incidents, a parent or close relative is behind the wheel.  Small reminders to drivers, like the #SafetySam Step2 KidAlert! V.W.S (visual warning sign) can prevent accidents like this!

Buy It: You can purchase your own Step2 KidAlert! V.W.S for 33.00.

  1. Sandy VanHoey says:

Wow, that’s where they got this. We have a store in our town and they have one of these out in front. We have commented many times on wondering where they got that so we could put one out in front of our home. Some drivers drive crazy in a residential area with kids

  2. Karen Glatt says:

I think it is a good idea putting out these signs to help keep children safe. We have drivers that are driving way to fast in a residential street where I live. They need to slow down because speed kills. We have neighbors put out this sign and it seems to help.

  3. We chose a house at the end of a cul-de-sac to avoid through traffic. A couple of people on our street have Safety Sam, though, and I do think it helps.
