My little ones love to feel included in family game night. Problem is, most games aren’t appropriate for our younger ones. The ones that our 8 year old can figure out bore him quickly because when its not his turn- he has nothing to do. Thankfully University Games has decided to help bridge the gap and made games specifically for kids 6-12, like Poppin Hoppies!
Poppin Hoppies is a remake of a 1960’s game that is a ‘hopping’ good time for kids. To play, simply push down the spring-loaded figures with suction cup feet and then wait. The characters will randomly pop into the air, ready for the little ones to catch. For every Hoppie caught, kids receive a plastic figure piece. To win, be the first to catch 6 Poppin Hoppies and collect the pieces you need to create a complete character!
The game is an excellent concept and all my kids (big and little) love trying to catch the Hoppies!
The game is for kids 6-12, but I think the age range is more 4-10 and to even the playing field all the kids should be around the same age. If you have 10 year olds play with 6 year olds, the ten year olds reach will give him or her a large advantage and the younger kids will just get frustrated. My kids literally play this game for hours at a time. However, they do not use the people at all. They instead keep score of who caught the most Hoppies!

My grandson is in that in-between stage where he’s too old for the preschool games but not yet ready for strategy. Love that they are coming out with ones for his ages. I can see the mad leap at the table as my son and grandson play. You better have a sturdy table and leave the drinks in the other room. 🙂

I really think it’s great that they geared this game toward older children. Two of my three kids fall into this age range and I see them struggling to find fun board games quite often!
