The Johnny Cash Museum – Nashville, TN

Disclosure: My family was provided complimentary admission to The Johnny Cash Museum.
The Johnny Cash Museum, located in the heart of Music City takes you on an in-depth journey through the Man In Black’s amazing life. Featuring hundreds of artifacts and interactive exhibits that cover six decades of his life. 13161042_10208313599591863_752813708_oWe visited the museum on a Friday evening with all four kids (aged 23 months, 5, 7 and 9 at the time of the visit) and stayed inside for around an hour and a half.13169818_10208313602431934_965401585_oThe museum is small, but well structured to give a view of his life and career over six decades of recording music. 13223631_10208313599871870_1980344362_oLong stories on the walls that my husband and I enjoyed reading were accompanied by an iPad and headphones to listen to music or pieces of documentaries which the kids enjoyed. 13214679_10208313600231879_146654962_oLetters from his days in the air force decoding Morse code were right along size June’s gorgeous dresses, which made my daughter squeal with delight. And don’t forget those amazing Blue Suede Shoes!13214885_10208313601791918_312881425_oI was able to push a stroller through the entire museum with no problems and because the museum mixed history lessons, music, and memorabilia my kids stayed interested during our entire self-guided tour. We viewed gear from his time in the military, furniture from his and Junes home and even hand written lyrics sheets and love letters!13199469_10208313599391858_351694001_o
Additional items inside include stage costumes, instruments, personal letters, artwork and handwritten lyrics as well as contributions from family members and notable friends.13170803_10208313600831894_1677461834_oMy favorite part of the entire museum, was the end. The final area is centered around his recording of “Hurt” and the video. It features a chair that was at the table during the recording, his guitar and a large TV that plays the song on repeat.

  8. This would be such an ideal place for my mom and sister to go to. My mom always wanted to see June Carter Cash in concert. She almost got to, but then Ms. Carter suddenly fell ill. My sister ended up being a huge fan of Johnny Cash because of his music, and movie, ‘Walk The Line’.

  9. Renee Walters says:

  10. ellen beck says:

I had no clue that this was there. We would have loved to see it when we were in that area. There is a rumor thatt we are realted to him on my Fathers side, but because of the way he acted, things were estranged. I dont know how true it is and I think it was a 3rd cousin type thing. I love his voice and his story.
