5 Free Things To Do With Kids in Philadelphia, PA

Free things to do in Philadelphia with kidsVisiting center city Philadelphia with kids can feel a bit overwhelming. By the time you find a place to park your car and decide what kind of public transportation your going to take form place to place you are mentally exhausted and probably at least $100.00 poorer. (Bringing your dog? Make sure to read the best places to go with your dog.) The following five places are free to visit and provided my family hours of entertainment even with young children.

Liberty Bell Center: You will find larger-than-life historic documents and images inside the expansive, light-filled Liberty Bell Center as you explore the facts and the myths surrounding our nation’s most famous bell. The 2,080-pound, mostly copper structure creates a dramatic photo opportunity with Independence Hall in the background.

United States Mint: The Philadelphia U.S Mint makes around half of the nation’s circulating coins. The building offers free, self guided tours Monday-Friday where you can see the process of coins being made from high above and behind protective glass.52d403a8be93f-us-mintThe Rocky Statue & Steps: Located in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art the steps and the statue are one of the most visited attractions in Philadelphia. Running up the steps is pretty much a must on your first visit to the city. Pump your fists in the air as Rocky did when he reached the top and then turn around to cherish the spectacular view of the skyline.

Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches: Have a seat. Take a load off and learn about our nation’s history from award-winning Once Upon A Nation storytellers at any of the 13 storytelling benches located in and around Independence National Historic Park. Stories last just a few minutes each and are told continuously during operating hours. You can start at any of the benches, all clearly marked with a “Once Upon A Nation” sign.Carpenters' Hall_GWidmanMoney In Motion Exhibit: Located inside the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank this permanent exhibit employs advanced presentation technology and interactive displays. The exhibit is a wonderful place to learn the story of central banking in the United States and when you leave, they give you a bag filled with money.
