Homey – The Easiest Chore Management System Ever

Disclosure: This post brought to you by Homey.

When it comes to getting my kids to do chores, I find it is easiest to offer them compensation. They do small chores with out getting paid, but bigger chores get done right and on time when I offer rewards. The most challenging part is keeping up with who did what chore and what reward they should get. It’s complicated with four kids to keep track – so I use Homey.PicMonkey Collage

Homey app helps you to teach your children the value of hard work and how that can lead to rewards. Chores help teach kids that money is earned and not just given. You can pay kids commissions based on chores they do around the house like taking out the trash, cleaning their room, or mowing the grass. And you can also set responsibilities that are not paid to teach kids that everyone needs to contribute to the household – and Homey still provides motivation with fun incentives.

With Homey I can set chores for the kids by taking a simple snapshot (so it works for younger kids too) and everybody gets notifications when their chores are due – so I don’t have to nag. When they complete their chore they have to take a photo each time, so that parents know what got done at a glance. Each chore is worth a selected amount of coins (currency they can claim rewards with) and points (for responsibilities that are not paid) and when kids complete enough chores they can claim one of the rewards that their parents set – which can be allowance, a toy, screen time or anything else that you choose.

By setting up a few rewards that differ in value, kids learn delayed gratification (to not use their coins for a $1 reward, but to save up for that toy they want) which leads to better financial responsibility.
