Kindle FreeTime

Disclosure: This post brought to you by Amazon.

I can’t tell you how many times I have let my children play with one of my tablets only to find out an hour, a day or more later that they made a purchase I certainly did not approve of. Thankfully I have been able to have almost every single one of them reversed, but the hassle of doing it and having to wait for a credit to be made to my account is more than annoying. Each and every time it happens I stomp my feet on the ground and curse under my breath about how there needs to be a platform on every tabled designed specifically for kids with kid friendly fonts and colors, limited web use, only kid friendly games and videos and no purchases or in app downloads available- Enter Kindle FreeTime…

Main ScreenKindle FreeTime was built from the ground up to help give parents (like you and me) peace of mind when it comes time to allow your child to use your tablet. In this day and age kids just need technology! However things YouTube and in app pop ups make it almost impossible to allow your child to use one with out them sitting in your lap. With FreeTime I can create a profile for each of my kids and then choose what books, apps, games, and videos I want them to see.

Each time one of the kids uses Kindle FreeTime, it’s like they have their very own personalized tablet. I set up an account for each child and they have their own personalized avatar. The background color and fonts change to a kid-friendly design the second they open up FreeTime, they only see the titles that they have access to see, the home screen carousel shows their recently viewed titles, and they can even navigate visually to content based on characters or topics—for example “Cinderella,” “Dinosaurs,” or “Puppies.”

As you can see below, Emmitt’s video libary is filled with Thomas the Train, Barney and The Wiggles- all his favorite shows. He is two and all the videos that appear underneath his favorite ones are always age appropriate and always hold his interest. FreeTime learns what he likes, and adds new ones each and every day.

Emmitts VideosCarlee’s video library is much different than Emmitt’s. Her’s is filled with pretty princess movies and dancing ballerina. For the past week or so she has had quite an obsession with Angelina Ballerina and her FreeTime feed confirms this.

Carlees VideosI have chosen to limit all of my kids screen time. Kindle FreeTime, allows me to set limits on each activity. Each child gets 1 hour video/games a day but umlimited reading. The parental controls make this super easy to do. Ethan is our biggest reader and keeping new books in the house for him to explore has proved to be challenging. Even borrowing 20 books per week from the libary was not enough for him, thankfully FreeTime helps with that as well!

Ethans BooksKindle FreeTime Unlimited is the first-ever all-in-one subscription that brings together books, games, educational apps, movies, and TV shows—all the types of content that kids and parents love. For the first time ever, I can be confident handing my tablet over to my children because I know exactly what they can get into and can’t get into. Unlimited access starts at just $4.99 per month, with special pricing for Amazon Prime members from $2.99 per month.
