Disclosure: Drainwig was sent free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
About a month ago I received the Drainwig to review. I was super exited to try this because I lose a lot of hair while showering. The Drainwig claims that it will prevent clogged shower drains by inserting the snake like ball chain and “whiskers” down through the drain and then leaving the plastic flower cap resting on top of your drain cover. Drainwig recommends to keep this in your shower/tub for 2-5 months, pull out, toss and replace with a new Drainwig. The Drainwig comes in a pack of two.As I am inserting the Drainwig and trying to get the ball chain and whiskers snaked down through my shower drain there was a little cussing going on under my breath. Initially, I thought this has to be super easy, just let the chain go down through the shower drain. Wrong. This took some coaxing, shoving and pulling back out. Mine would not freely go down my drainpipe and just gathered in a bunch at the top. Disappointing. But the plastic flower laying on top of the drain looked pretty!!After the initial insertion we noticed we had a little puddling in our tub from the water not going down fast enough, this was most likely because the flower petals covered half of our drain. As the days/weeks went on this became worse. After about 4 weeks my husband ripped it out saying he was tired of standing in his own bathwater. Honestly, I was ready to get rid of it too. After inspection, there was no hair on the “whiskers” that were suppose to trap the hair from going down the drain probably because mine did not go down the drain freely like they were suppose to. But, there was hair (lots of it) wrapped around the plastic flower petals.I will not be inserting the other Drainwig that came with my package as it was just as easy to grab the hair off the drain then to deal with inserting the Drainwig and the slower drainage it caused. Those with a wide drain cover may have better result then I did.
Buy It: If you would like to purchase a Drainwig you can from Walmart.com for $9.15.
I’ve read about a device like this somewhere else and thought it was a brilliant idea, if it works. I have short hair now so it’s not a problem for me, but whenever someone visits and washes long hair in my shower I wish I’d had this in my drain.
Just to add: I do have a wide drain, so maybe it would work for me.
I had seen these and thought what a great idea. My tub is forever getting clogged up. I had yet to give this a try and not so sure I am going to. Sounds like it’s more trouble than its worth. Thanks for the review.
Oh this is such a great idea! I have such a hard time with the longer hair and clogs. I need to get a couple of these for our home!
I have this product and it really works great! I have gotten my drains cleaned out with this tool and it does not cost a lot of money!
i need this so badly,,i have very long hair and it gets the bathtub stopped up a lot,,would make my husband a nice stocking stuffer since he is the one who has to umplug the tub when it gets stopped up with hair
