Disclosure: I was compensated for this post about the Omron TriAxis Pedometer through theBookieboo Influencer Network and Mamavation, a disease prevention campaign for moms.
A month ago I was chosen for a Mamavation challenge, sponsored by Omron. The challenge? Walk 10,000 steps a day for 30 days. Easy right? I received a Tri Axis Pedometer and access to OmronFitness.com as part of a month-long challenge. 15 bloggers, including myself, would walk their little hearts out for 15 days and then report their steps on Instagram and Twitter. I’m pretty sure every bloggers goal was different. Some wanted to stay healthy, some to lose weight- I just wanted to become more active!
The Omron Tri-Axis USB Pedometer initial set up was simple, it literally took a minute. Using the three buttons, you set your height, weight, stride and time. Then I clipped it on to my belt loop and decided to start the challenge by making sure I hit 10,000 steps. I laced up my walking shoes, grabbed my jogging stroller and headed to get the mail with Emmitt.
The Omron Pedometer tracks both regular and aerobic (i.e. brisk) steps, distance, calories burned and your pitch (average number of aerobic steps per minute). The Tri-Axis Technology allows it to continue to counts steps no matter what position it lays (i.e. flat, vertically or horizontally.). Most days I stuck the pedometer in my pocket, but a few days when I had no pocket it fit perfectly in my bra. I loved that I was able to see how many miles and steps I took, because at first I really didn’t understand how quickly steps added up!
I’ve never counted steps before so I had no idea how many steps a normal day would contain for me. (I later found out I walk around 3,000 if I have lots of work to do.) However, just the trip to the mail box added 600 steps. which meant a round trip mail gathering was 1,200 steps, 12% of my goal. I spent about three hours the very first day walking around my neighborhood, all five kids in tow and I hit my 10,000 step goal after cleaning my kitchen from top to bottom after dinner!
Being a blogger has it’s perks, no doubt about that. However it also means that every second I am working I’m sitting on my rear which does not help with steps! Normal every day activity with the kids gets me about 3,000 steps, but those extra 7,000 I really had to work for and to be honest, my body was not used to 10,000 steps, which I realized on the morning of day 2 because my feet hurt bad!
The integrated online components are a huge bonus for those that enjoy sharing their work outs with online friends. The easy to navigate dashboard allows you to track progress and share with all your Facebook or Twitter friends! In addition to monitoring my activity, the Omron Tri Axis Pedometer and I have become work out friends. It is very simple to use and always accurate and it holds me accountable, which is something I need. Becoming more active it a choice you have to make for yourself and you have to want to accomplish. 10,000 steps a day was a lot for me, but I realized deep down that I should be achieving at least that and pushed myself harder and harder each day to achieve my goal.

If your interested in becoming more active, losing weight or just tracking your steps you can purchase a Tri-Axis USB Pedometer for 49.99 from OmronFitness.com!

I need to get one of these – I like the slim design (fits in the bra – ha!) People I know who use them say it’s a great reminder to MOVE.
I feel like I don’t walk enough but I do exercise on a daily basis. I would love to have a pedometer like this one to see where I can improve!
i can really use one of these…i need to track my walking.
I like how much it tracks. Very helpful. This looks well built, too. I’m tired of ones that slide off my jeans or only count some of the time. I will have to look into this.
