2014 Lexus IS

Disclosure:  Lexus let me test drive a 2013 IS for a week!

Ohhhh baby! If your a Lexus lover like me, chances are you cant wait to read this post! The 2014 Lexus IS has not changed much since it’s debut in 2006 and has been on some what of a hiatus for the past eight years (holy cow, was 2006 that long ago?)  It seems like Lexus has kept the best of the best of the 2006 model, with amazing upgrades that make the 2014 Lexus a mature, stylish and amazinglycomplete luxury car.

IMG_7758The most immediately noticeable change to IS the super sporty exterior. Bold lines, a new front grill, LED headlights and a sporty upswept line that runs from the front door to the taillights give it an over all wow look that stops people in their tracks. Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.5-liter V-6 rated at 204 horsepower for IS 250 models and 185 pound-feet of torque and a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 306 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque for IS 350 models.

IMG_7763Inside the IS a you will find two amazingly comfortable, power- adjustable, heated and cooled front seats and a tiered dashboard that puts everything on a generous 7 inch screen display that is with in arms reach of both the driver and the passenger. The center console features my favorite Lexus feature- the mouse, that allows you to control everything important with little, to no effort. The steering wheel controls are also rather helpful when on the highway or during a busy traffic time.

IMG_7764The rear seat is a 60/40-split folding bench seat with plenty of leg room for adult passengers. Getting three car seats in the back proved to be impossible with the middle seats bump up, but getting two car seats was very easy. There are four lower anchors, two behind driver, two behind passenger and three top tethers. If you have trouble getting the top tether to latch, you can remove the head rests and store them in your trunk for when you uninstall the car seat!

IMG_7768Standard safety equipment in the IS include driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags and the normal side and frontal airbags. Vehicle stability and traction control, tire pressure monitoring, and an energy-absorbing crash structure are all standard features with optional safety features including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic radar-based cruise control, lane departure warning, park assist, and a back-up camera that makes parking easier than 1, 2, 3!
