Disclosure: The carrier in the feature below was sent compliments of Baby Bjorn.
The One Carrier is the latest carrier on the market by Baby Bjorn. It is ideal for those wanting an ergonomic baby carrier that is easy to use, and provides comfort for both baby and parent.
The Baby Bjorn One is a multifunctional front and back baby carrier that offers four carrying positions. The Optimal newborn position allows you to carry your newborn high up on your chest, close to your heart. The Inward-facing comfort position is ergonomically designed to be comfortable for you and your growing baby. The Outward-facing position allows you to explore the world together when your child is ready (Minimum 5 months and for a maximum of 15 minutes.) And finally the Easy back carrying position that allows you to place your toddler on your back by yourself in one safe motion once they are over the age of one.
The carrier achieves these four special positions by using a special zipper system that allows the carrier to be altered to accommodate newborns and small children as well as bigger babies and toddlers which eliminates the need to have an additional removable newborn insert or an entirely different carrier for the newborn stage.
There is also a leg zipper that allows a natural leg position for newborns (0-4 months) facing inward and for children 5 months and older in an outward facing position and a normal (wide) leg position for babies 4-36 months. Not many carriers offer these nice adjustments to accommodate baby’s growth and comfort.
I am really impressed by the overall design of this carrier. Baby Bjorn boasts that the One carrier was designed along side of pediatricians, encouraging baby’s safety, health and comfort, which in an attractive feature to me as a parent. Olive is six months old, and while she wasn’t used to being carried around in carrier quite like this, once adjusted into the carrier, she immediately seemed at ease and comfortable.
She definitely likes being held more than our older daughter ever did, so having a carrier that both her and I love so much is coming quite in handy, for getting things done around the house, as well as on the go-at the grocery store, and the mall, and most recently, our local fair and then apple picking outing (pictured).
A favorite feature of mine is how easy it is to get baby into the carrier, while the carrier is on. We have another carrier that I like, but I always need to have room to lay it down and get her situated into it first before on me, which isn’t always possible when I’m getting her out of her car seat and into a carrier in the car to run into a store. The Baby Bjorn One simply slips over your head like a shirt:
Then you reach around back and fasten your hip clip-
Finally you clip the two front clips to secure baby in and your done! There’s not even a hard-to-reach shoulder clip that needs fastened!
The straps are easy to adjust how high baby sits on you, although I will mention, the hip clip is a bit difficult to tighten once it’s fastened, so I do recommend adjusting that before baby is all situated.
Pros:
- Very convenient snap on (you hear the click, so you know baby is secure) buckles which allows for quick insertion and removal of baby from the carrier.
- Only takes one person to setup, even for back carrying!
- Heavily padded shoulder and waist straps, provides great comfort for the wearer.
- Zippers allow for legs to hang down or be supported to the side, providing comfort for baby.
- Baby is snug and close to the parent, but not squashed either.
- Machine washable!
Cons:
- No rain/sun shield or storage pocket for parent’s keys, phone or baby’s pacifier.
- High price point.
- Bulky for storing in a diaper bag vs other carriers.
- Currently only available in black.
