D & O Celtic Jewelry: Tree Of Life

Disclosure: This post brought to you by D & O Celtic Jewelry.

D & O Celtic Jewelry (“D” standing for Dan the creator and “O” for his 9 year old son, Owen) was started in 2012 when Dan discovered Shapeways. He had known about 3D printing for quite a while, but had no idea how inexpensive and accessible 3D printing had become.  He started out designing easy things like a vase and then a toy rocket for Owen, but he wanted to try something a little more difficult, jewelry!

Well aware of his Irish heritage Dan was drawn to the Celtic knot. Celtic knots are ancient and yet still very modern, the mix of old and new– using a cutting edge technology like 3D printing to create jewelry out of ancient symbols really intrigued Dan so his first Celtic jewelry piece he designed was a Motherhood knot ring that he gave to his wife.

After taking pictures of it and showing friends, he got amazing feed back and made an online sale and D & O Celtic Jewelry was created!

I looked over Dan’s shop a few months ago and was immediately drawn to his Tree of Life Necklace. The concept of a tree of life has been used in biology, religion, philosophy and mythology for many years. A tree of life is a common motif in various world theologies, mythologies, and philosophies. It alludes to the interconnection of all life on our planet and serves as a metaphor for common descent in the evolutionary sense. The term tree of life may also be used as a synonym for sacred tree and inside Dan’s Tree Of Life is a beautiful Celtic knot!

DSC_0298_treeAfter choosing what I wanted from D & O my order arrived promptly. The necklace was perfect and if possible even more beautiful in person! The Tree Of Life necklace is 28mm and avaliable in four different finishes; steel, silver, brass and gold plated steel. It also comes with a 16′ chain. I wear the necklace often. To me the Tree Of Life represents family, my children and the roots I have planted on this earth that will only continue to grow and become stronger. Having that tied together with a Celtic knot, which represents my heritage makes this necklace very special to me and in my opinion would be an excellent gift for any Irish mom!
