With the birth of Emmitt, fitting three car seats in my car was a must. Finding car seats that my children were safe in and would fit three across, was a bit harder than I expected. So when I finally got my hands on a few Diono seats I was more than excited. The Diono Radian RXT is a 3-in-1 (rear-facing, forward-facing, and booster) convertible seat that all of my kids can fit in and it easily fits three across in most
The Diono Radian RXT Allows You To-
-Comfortably seats rear-facing children from 5-45 lbs.
-Easily forward-face children from 20 – 80 lbs, keeping them harnessed longer.
-Booster mode from 50 – 120 lbs (40 to 57 inches)
From left to right we have one year old, three years old, almost five years old, and seven years old!
The 45 pound rear-facing weight limit is currently the highest on the market, which makes extended rear facing easier than ever. The high 80 pound weight limit means that heavier children will be able to stay in the seat longer before moving to a booster, which makes extended harnessing easier than ever!
My seven year old is in the 85th percentile for weight and can still fit in the RXT perfectly. The RXT also has three crotch strap positions located approximately 3.5”, 5.5”, and 7” from the back of the seat which allows the seat to grow with your child. Nothing more annoying than having to dig under a five or six year old to find a buckle.
The harness height is not so easy to adjust. It adjusts from the back of the seat, so you do have to uninstall the seat. Each strap is removed from the metal plate and rethreaded through the correct harness slot.
Installing the Diono Radian RXT was very easy. It has the deluxe push-on style LATCH connectors that I love. They store at the top of the shell when not in use. The manual says that the tether strap can be used rear- or forward-facing, but for the life of me I can not figure out how to use it rear-facing. I love the instruction manual though. I don’t often rave about a manual in a review- but the Diono Radian RXT manual comes with nifty QWERTY codes that I can scan with my phone and watch a video that shows me how to do it!
If your looking for a car seat that will last for a long time, or one that you can pass down from child to child, this is the seat. he RXT has 2 separate expiration dates. If you use the harness (up to 80lbs) the RXT expires 8 years from date of manufacture. When used as a booster without the harness, the seat expires 10 years from date of manufacture.
This is not a light weight car seat! It weighs in at a whopping 24 lbs but comes with a padded shoulder strap for carrying.To be honest it being this heavy only makes me feel safer putting my little one (or big one) in it! I have a Sunshine Kids Radian as well and not much has changed from one seat to another. If you are looking for a safe car seat that is going to last you a very hard time, the Diono Radian RXT is definitely a seat to check out!

just to let you know, in order to install RFing you wrap the d-hook ( top tether extender that came with the seat), around the seat track closest to where the seat is installed. then you attach the top hook to the metal loop. I don’t know if someone else explained it as I did not read all the 100+ comments.

Well, I just had two more grand SONS born- I could use a Cobalt blue one. LOL Grandma and Grandpa do a LOT of daycare for these kids, and I will be needing another car seat now. It is a lot easier for us to have our own- rather than the constant transferring of them. I sure hope I win this.

I’d love to win one in Storm! We have a 2 & 4 year old, but now that I’m returning to work part time, we desperately need two extra car seats for my dad’s car. We have the older style Sunshine kids in my car and they are the best – though these do look nicer and and bonus with the cup holders. We only want SAFE, great quality ones and so winning a seat would be perfect timing.

My son is off the charts big and will be too big to RF in our Serena soon, and he’s not even 2 yet! Since the Radian RFs longer than any other seat it’s our only option. I want one in Cobalt for him, and one in purple for our daughter.
Do you think it’s possible to install one of these RF in a Corolla (we have an 08) and still have enough room in the front seats? We’re expecting our first and I’m trying to figure out if I should get a RXT for this car or try to find something else for the Corolla.

Nope. The Combi Coccoro is the only one I can fit rear facing in my Corolla.

The only car seat you will ever have to buy for your child/children. I’ll admit that it is more then I would spend on a car seat but seeing that just one seat will last from birth to well past when my child will need a car seat it is well worth the extra cost.

Im so excited because my husband HATES our carseat (no not why im excited) that we have now and said we could upgrade to one of these come tax season! Not sure if im going to buy two, one for my 4 year old (she has a graco nautilus) or just one for my youngest daughter. I love that we can fit 3 in the back of our car. One day we will have 3 kids, and won’t want to buy another car just because we can’t get the seats to fit in the back but we don’t want to have to worry about safety either. These are a win win for us! Small, compact, high weight limit/ height limit so excited!

After using your seats for awhile are you finding the headrests to be a burden or are they useful? I have a little one who will most likely be tall. Many reviews I have found state the headrests can start to get in the way of kid’s shoulders or impede their view. Therefore I am now trying to decide whether to go for the Pacifica or the Rainier (updated version of Radian so I am told). The Pacifica is the exact same except lacks the headrests. Would it be practical to go with the Pacifica and just add some homemade pillow-type of support. Also, my vehicle has rear side curtain airbags.

We fit our RXT in our 2010 Civic for over a year until I found THIS amazing Diono angle adjuster. Gives my wife 4 more inches in the passenger seat. It makes it a little harder to get the kid in and out as it’s pushing it more vertical, but Diono sells it so it is safe.

I am looking to purchase a Diono Radian RXT for my toddler. One thing that is concerning me is that she will have plenty of room for her legs and feet because she is still rear-facing. Can anyone clear things up for me?
