You may not be aware of this, but 2013 is the 100th anniversary of TINKERTOY! When I was in grade school we used to play with TINKERTOYS but I had no idea they had been around for 100 years. They have come quite a long way those 100 years to. The hard, colorless wooden pieces have been replaced by newly redesigned plastic pieces that snap together and stay together for long-lasting play.
The TINKERTOY 100 Piece Essential building set features only the most familiar TINKERTOY parts including spools, rods, flags, washers end caps and more. Set also comes with a colorful instruction sheet that features building tips and ideas. Normally my younger kids (2-6) show the most interest in our TINKERTOYS, however Blake, who is 8 helped me open this box and saw a windmill he really wanted to create!
The instructions were super easy to read and Blake set to work right away.
With a little assistance from his little brother he was almost done in about five minutes!
The windmill was sturdy and could even be spun in circles. Blake was so proud of his creation!
The only thing I was disappointed in was the box the Essentials Set came in. Normally TINKERTOY boxes come with a nice plastic lid- this one did not. I’m thinking this is because they assume you will be adding this set to a TINKERTOY set you already own, however if that was the case, why did they make the box so darn big? My kids were a bit disappointed to open up a HUGE box and only see the bottom covered.
Buy It: The suggested retail price of the TINKERTOY 100 Piece Essentials Set is $34.99.
