2014 Dodge Journey

Disclosure: Dodge let me test drive a 2014 Journey for a week!

If you don’t quite need the seating space a minivan offers, but still want the comfort and space- the Dodge Journey may be the perfect vehicle for you to look into purchasing!

IMG_8641The Dodge Journey is labeled as a ‘crossover utility vehicle’ because it can be purchased with an optional third row for occasional seating which gives the Journey way more flexibility than other five-seat crossover competitors. It comes packed with standard features and it starts at a price that’s hard to believe- just $19.995. Because of that optional third row, it can accommodate larger families without the bulk or thirstiness of the much larger seven-seat mid-size crossovers.

IMG_8656The Journey that I test drove only had two rows, but I was able to fit three car seats in the back seat of the Journey, no problem! Pictured below is the very large Britax Frontier 90,  a rear facing Combi Coccoro and a booster. My child that rode in the booster had more than enough room to buckle and unbuckle themselves which made loading and unloading a breeze!

IMG_8648With the second-row seat and fold-flat front passenger seat folded, you get up to 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space. With all seats occupied, the trunk space is still aplenty- 37 whole cubic feet. Pictured below is the massive Britax B-Ready double stroller and as you can see, there is still plenty of room for groceries and kid gear. Another space feature I loved was all the hidden storage spots! Second-row in-floor storage and Flip ‘n Stow front passenger in-seat storage gave me a place for everything and allowed me to keep everything in its place- which is hard when you have kids!

IMG_8650The Journey comes standard with dual front, side, and curtain airbags as well as stability and traction control, active head restraints and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock control. Plus the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the Journey an overall rating of four stars, with four stars for frontal crash and rollover protection and a top five-star individual score for side-impact protection.

IMG_8644The Journey isn’t the most fuel-efficient crossover I’ve ever drove- however the EPA gives it 17-mpg city and 25 highway. During my week long test drive, we did a ton of city driving and averaged 20 mpg!

  1. We just purchased the 2014 Dodge Journey about 6 weeks ago! I am so in love with this vehicle!! I love the third row seating although, haven’t used it yet, love the spacious trunk space and the floor board storage, and under seat storage in the front passenger seat. I also really like the heated steering wheel and seats and climate control. My kids totally dig the rear entertainment system as well. Not sure if this one came with that, but ours also came with wifi headphones so the kids could enjoy their movie and we didn’t have to listen to it. We could listen to the satellite radio in the car. This is by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned!
